Mill Valley Cottage

The intention of this garden was to allow our clients to enjoy entertaining company outdoors and offer a respite to relax in their space. We designed a series of outdoor rooms or distinctive areas. Off of their family room, there is a full barbecue, kitchen and dining area. We built a covered pavilion for an outdoor living room with heaters and a sound system so that they could enjoy being outside all year round. When they want alone time, a boardwalk leads them to a quiet sitting area and birdbath amongst three very old, established fig trees. As for plant material, we decided to add tall timber bamboo for privacy screening, and since their garden had originally been an orchard, we maintained an old grafted apple tree, three fig trees, a peach tree, and a persimmon tree. Then we added some new trees in the mix.
