Sycamore
Mill Valley, Marin
An artist’s woodland garden in Mill Valley, layered for living outdoors year-round. Floating ipe boardwalks and checkerboard stone paths thread between beds that erupt each spring in tulips — inky black, plum, and white — underplanted with ajuga, heuchera, and golden grasses. A sculptural multi-trunk fig presides over a gravel court, tree ferns and bananas lend the borders a tropical depth, and a white pavilion hung with lanterns anchors a shaded outdoor room. Stacked-stone walls and mirrored ornaments in the branches complete a garden made to be wandered.
