It is with great pleasure that we recommend the services of Monarch Gardens. We have been working with Carolyn and Dave for eight years in two different gardens. Our first garden Carolyn virtually brought back from the brink of death with her educated soil treatment and plant selections. I occasionally visit our former garden and have seen that it continues to flourish years later.
Carolyn brought her artful sense of color design and materials expertise into our current property. We were honored to be selected as a stop on the Mill Valley Art and Garden Tour because of the beautiful garden she has created. Monarch maintain the integrity of the existing garden (established in the late 1920s) while at the same time updating it with more contemporary design schemes. Our garden presents several challenges: we have nine fruit trees which are maintained and beautifully sustained by Monarch. We have difficult drainage problems which have been successfully resolved.
Monarch prides it’s self on sustaining gardens through organic means. We installed a composter on the property which supports both our vegetable beds as well as the overall garden.
Because we were truly novices at garden design and management, we have been especially grateful to carolyn and Dave and the rest of the Monarch staff for their willingness to communicate, their great spirit, and their exuberant commitment to the highest standards of garden design and maintenance.

Monarch Gardens designed, installed and maintains my small front and backyards. The design process was fun, and they were willing to work with me on keeping price is within my budget and still maintain my “vision” for an outdoor space that is functional, beautiful, and eco-friendly. Because my husband is “handy”, we chose to do some of the work ourselves, and Monarch was very good at listening to our needs and making helpful suggestions.
The construction process for the backyard included tearing up an old neglected yard that was heavily concreted , supervising subcontractors who installed a drainage and a sump pump, and “reconstructing” the yard to include a deck, small lawn area, and planted area with drip irrigation system. The front yard was an old lawn and now is beautifully landscaped with low-water and low-maintenance plants that are colorful and wildlife friendly. People slow down as a drive-by to it by or the plants and topography – no more flat, dead lawn.
The Monarch crew is a delight. They left the property clean at the end of each day’s work and have let my dogs “hang out” and watch the construction. They were careful at closing gates, etc. The quality of the work is very good. Monarch is a company that treats its workers fairly and that is certainly reflected in a job and a group of employees that are committed to doing a good job.
While you may find companies that may give you a lower cost, you won’t find many that are so personable and professional. I’m sure you’ll be happy with the results as you sit in your garden.

Carolyn, Dave and other members of monarch Gardens have continually provided excellent service in creating, designing and maintaining the garden area of my residents. They are honest, trustworthy, and meticulous in their work.
At the time I was building my house, Monarch Gardens was instrumental in designing an Italian courtyard. Their choices are the types of pots and plants use were complementary to the design of my house. Most recently, I made the decision to create a meditation area in a location that was small in size in the back area of my house. I provided monarch Gardens with any ideas and the result was exceptional. From a raw dirt area, Monarch Gardens was able to transform the area into a beautiful setting. They installed some lawn greenery, added a fountain and bench, and adorned the area with selective trees. The feeling that I get from sitting and listening to the water flow from the fountain is very peaceful and serene.
I highly recommend Monarch Gardens to anyone who appreciates creative design work and always enjoys working with people who are experts in their field.
